Find Charleston-area farms selling local beef direct, including grass-fed beef, Angus and Wagyu, freezer shares, farm pickup and home delivery.

Updated October 20, 2026.

If you live around Charleston and want to buy beef directly from a South Carolina farm, you have more options than the grocery-store meat case might suggest. The harder part is knowing which farm sells what, where pickup happens, whether home delivery is available, and whether you need a few steaks or enough beef to fill a freezer.

This guide starts with farms in and around the Charleston Lowcountry that raise beef and sell directly to families. Some specialize in grass-fed and grass-finished beef. Others offer Angus or Wagyu, freezer shares, farm-store shopping, scheduled pickup, or delivery into Charleston-area communities.

Farm inventory changes. A farm can have ribeyes one week and be waiting on the next processing date the next. Use the links below to check the Farm Allegiance profile and the farm's current ordering information before making a dedicated trip.

Coastal Cattle Company — Summerville

For families in Summerville, Nexton, Goose Creek, Ladson and the surrounding area, Coastal Cattle Company is one of the closest direct-from-the-farm beef options.

The family-owned ranch raises Angus and Wagyu cattle in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Its Angus program is described by the farm as grass fed and grain finished, and the farm sells individual cuts, ground beef, roasts, boxes and larger freezer-beef options through its online store.

The farm's current online catalog includes a beef share as well as individual products, although stock changes and some cuts sell out. Online orders can be scheduled for farm pickup, and in-person shopping is by appointment because this is a working ranch.

Best for: Summerville-area families who want individual cuts or a larger freezer order without driving far from the Charleston metro.

Wishbone Heritage Farms — St. George, with Charleston-area pickup and delivery

Wishbone Heritage Farms raises grass-fed, grass-finished beef in St. George and has built a particularly convenient system for getting farm food into the Charleston area.

Customers can order beef online and use scheduled pickup locations in Summerville, Park Circle, Mount Pleasant, downtown Charleston and Johns Island. The farm also offers Charleston-area home delivery on scheduled Sundays. At the Sea Island Farmers Market on Johns Island, Wishbone sells farm products on Saturdays.

Wishbone's beef selection can include ground beef, steaks, roasts, bones, organ meats, cooking fats and larger variety packs. Because the farm produces in small batches, specific cuts can move in and out of stock.

Best for: shoppers who want grass-fed, grass-finished beef but prefer a Charleston-area pickup point instead of driving to the farm.

Chucktown Acres — McClellanville

Chucktown Acres raises grass-fed, grass-finished beef in McClellanville and sells both individual cuts and larger beef shares.

The farm says its cattle stay on grass rather than grain and are moved through pasture as part of its rotational grazing system. Customers can shop at the McClellanville farm store, order online, use select pickup locations, or choose home delivery across a broad Charleston-area route.

For families looking to stock a freezer, Chucktown Acres also offers quarter, half and whole beef shares. The farm currently describes those as approximately 100, 200 and 400 pounds of beef respectively. That makes it one of the more straightforward local options if your goal is to buy well beyond a few individual cuts.

The farm store is currently listed as open Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Online home-delivery orders are due by Monday at 11 p.m.; the farm publishes Wednesday and Thursday delivery routes covering communities from McClellanville and Mount Pleasant into Charleston, Summerville, Goose Creek, Hanahan, Park Circle, West Ashley and James Island.

Best for: grass-fed beef, farm-store shopping, home delivery and quarter-to-whole freezer shares.

Live Oak Beef — Ravenel

Live Oak Beef is a Charleston-area cattle operation based in Ravenel, with cattle also finished on Lowcountry forage at Plum Hill in the ACE Basin.

The farm raises a closed Gelbvieh-Angus cross herd and describes its beef as 100% grass fed and grass finished. Live Oak is currently listed as USDA Grass (Forage) Fed certified. The farm sells beef shares, 80/20 and 90/10 ground beef in larger quantities, and select cuts when inventory is available.

This is an important example of why buying directly from farms works differently from supermarket shopping: Live Oak's current online shop shows no products available. The farm recommends joining its email list for beef-drop and share announcements, and it also lists local retail partners that may have Live Oak beef when the farm itself is sold out.

When farm-direct orders are available, pickup is local in Ravenel or Mount Pleasant.

Best for: buyers specifically looking for certified grass-fed beef who are comfortable planning around limited releases.

Keegan-Filion Farm — Walterboro, with Lowcountry delivery

Keegan-Filion Farm is a multigenerational Walterboro farm raising grass-fed beef along with pork, chicken and seasonal turkeys.

You can shop at the farm store Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. For Charleston-area customers who do not want to make the drive to Walterboro, the farm's Pastured Pantry service provides weekly home and office delivery.

Keegan-Filion also operates a Meat Share program. Its current beef-share format is a 10-pound monthly beef box purchased as a three-month subscription. Enrollment opens and closes by share period, so check the current program before counting on immediate availability.

Best for: families who want recurring beef purchases or Lowcountry home delivery from an established family farm.

Legare Farms — Johns Island

For a farm physically close to Charleston, Legare Farms on Johns Island is hard to overlook. The Legare family has farmed on Johns Island since 1725, and the current operation raises Black Angus and Hereford cattle along with heritage hogs and seasonal vegetables.

Legare sells through several channels, including its Rolling Farmers Market, farm arrangements, CSA activity and local delivery. Beef availability is not as consistently posted online as it is at some of the dedicated beef operations above, so this is a farm where checking the latest update or calling before traveling matters.

Best for: Johns Island and Charleston shoppers who want a long-established local farm and are willing to confirm the current beef selection before buying.

Which Charleston-area beef farm should you start with?

Choose based on how you actually shop. If you want a few cuts close to Summerville, start with Coastal Cattle Company. If you want convenient pickup around Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Park Circle, Summerville or Johns Island, look at Wishbone Heritage Farms. If you want a quarter, half or whole grass-fed beef share, Chucktown Acres is built for that kind of purchase. If USDA Grass (Forage) Fed certification matters to you, watch Live Oak Beef's release schedule. If recurring delivery is the priority, Keegan-Filion is worth comparing. If you are on Johns Island, keep Legare Farms on your local list.

Before you buy beef directly from a farm

Check four things before ordering: how the cattle are finished, how the beef is priced, how much freezer space you need, and where pickup or delivery happens.

“Grass fed” and “grass finished” are not automatically the same thing, and some farms intentionally use grain finishing. Bulk beef can also be priced by packaged weight, hanging weight, share size or a flat box price. Ask what the quoted price includes, whether processing is separate, approximately how many pounds you will take home, and when the beef will be ready.

Most importantly, confirm current inventory. Direct farm buying is seasonal and batch-based. You are buying from a real farm with a real production cycle, not an endless warehouse shelf.
