FARMER STORY

The Farm Where Goats Meet the Beehive

Steve Priole raises Nubian goats and honey bees in Westminster—and through Bees for the Brave, shares beekeeping with veterans and first responders.

At Flip Flop Farm in Westminster, the morning might start with Nubian goats calling from the pasture and bees already working the flowers.

Steve Priole, a Navy veteran publicly associated with the farm, works around two very different animals: goats and honey bees. The goats provide milk used in the farm's handmade soaps and body-care products, while the hives produce local honey.

But the bees became more than another part of the farm.

Through Bees for the Brave, Steve shares beekeeping with veterans and first responders, bringing people together around the slow, careful work of tending a hive.

That may be the thing worth remembering about Flip Flop Farm: on a farm filled with goats, soap and honey, some of its most meaningful work happens inside a beehive.

Customers can shop Flip Flop Farm's linked online store for current products and follow the farm's website or Facebook page for announced markets, pop-ups and public events.
